The objective of the county bike routes project, funded by the Kosciusko County Convention, Recreation, and Visitor Commission, was to define and provide signage for a network of bicycle routes using our county roads. The resulting network connects various communities in Kosciusko county, as well as provides some scenic routes for tourist riders.
The routes were selected by a group of experienced cyclists using criteria such as safety of the road, directness of routes between destinations and overall attractiveness. The total mileage of roads in the network that has been marked thus far is approximately 200 miles.
Project implementation began in June 2011 and concluded in September 2013. Kosciusko county bike routes connect to similar networks already developing in St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall counties. It was designed to match-up with existing and proposed bike ways in the Warsaw, Winona Lake and Syracuse areas.
